How to Apply

STEP 1: Express your interest in PTR

Download and complete the Complete the registration form and send your résumé to Recruitment Manager Liz Palmer at recruitment@philaedfund.org.

STEP 2: Schedule a phone interview with the Recruitment Manager

Once the Recruitment Manager has received and reviewed your résumé, they will contact you to schedule a telephone interview.

STEP 3: Take the Praxis exams

In accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, all PTR candidates for initial certification in teaching must take the Praxis Exams for their certification area. Candidates must complete the Praxis I and Praxis II in the subject area that they plan to teach.

STEP 4: Apply to the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education

Begin the online application for the Masters Degree of Secondary Education.

STEP 5: Participate in the PTR Selection Day and interview with the School District of Philadelphia

The Selection Day is a creative process for assessing the dispositions and skills of PTR candidates as they participate in a variety of group activities.

PTR reviews applications using a "rolling" admissions model with three review cycles. We encourage you to apply early, since the 2010 cohort size and scholarship funding is limited.
